Rules, Kit & Equipment

Q: What footwear and gear do we need?

A: To protect the playing surface, players must strictly adhere to the host venue’s footwear policy.

  • Permitted: Moulded football studs or artificial grass (astro) trainers.

  • Strictly Prohibited: Metal studs, blades, or flat-soled indoor running trainers.

  • Safety: All players must wear shin pads during match play. Referees will bar any player from entering the pitch without correct footwear or safety gear.

Q: Do we need to bring our own match balls or team bibs?

A: No. Football Sixes UK provides all high-quality match balls and team bibs on the night. Your team just needs to turn up in matching coloured shirts if possible, or we will supply bibs to avoid clashing.

Q: How long are the matches and how many players can we bring?

A: Matches are 6-a-side, but you can bring a squad of up to 10 players per night. Substitutions are “roll-on, roll-off,” meaning they can be made at any time during the match with the referee’s permission. Match lengths are typically two halves of 20 minutes (40 minutes total rolling time).

Media & Discipline

Q: Why are there cameras at the matches, and will I be filmed?

A: We regularly film match highlights, capture professional photographs, and conduct post-match interviews to celebrate the league and post content across our TikTok, Instagram, X and YouTube channels. By registering and playing in a Football Sixes UK Ltd league, all players grant us the right to use their footage for marketing and promotional purposes.

Q: What happens if a player gets a yellow or red card?

A: We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy on dissent, violence, and foul language to keep our leagues safe and family-friendly.

  • A Yellow Card results in a temporary 5-minute sin-bin.

  • A Red Card results in immediate ejection from the game and an automatic minimum 1-week ban. Teams instigating brawls or walking off the pitch will be permanently expelled from the league with no refunds.
